Workplace Giving: Providing transportation for the disabled

Residents of Independence Australia’s Williamstown respite house and Coburg’s community house were thrilled with the arrival of a new Community Bus thanks to the generosity of United Way Melbourne’s regular Workplace Giving donors.

Independence Ausralia supports people living with a disability or other physical need to achieve their quality of life by providing services and products that support and empower people to regain, retrain and extend their independence.

Independence Australia CEO, Peter Turner, said that the new Community Bus strengthens people’s independence. “We are not here just to put a roof over their heads, but to help people with disabilities in their personal endeavours to participate in their communities. We could not achieve all we need to do without the generous support we receive from our supports. We are very grateful for their contributions” he said.

The bus will help residents to get to medical appointments, recreational and social outings, educational opportunities and to visit family and friends.
